Carmela and Tony Soprano were separated for over a year, and, despite her best efforts to move on, including having an affair with AJ's school counselor, Mr. Wegler, Carmela was unable to leave Tony forever. However, unlike some other women who reject Tony's advances (such as Dr. Melfi), Adriana and Tony absolutely would have become entangled with one another except they were interrupted - twice. After almost going to jail for killing Bevilaqua, Tony decides to insulate himself from all criminal activity and spend more time at his legitimate office at Barone Sanitation, but the straight life gives him even more panic attacks.
